The Wickham Conducting Weekend with Denise Ham at Wormstall Park House near Newbury, Berkshire.

This popular weekend has become an annual event, now in its 7th year. It is an ideal opportunity for conductors to improve their skills in a relaxed setting. Many use it as a preparation or refresher for Canford - or as a "taster" if they have never attended the summer school Conductors' Course.

There are 12 participants plus observers and, as at Canford, observers take part in technique sessions but do not receive individual tuition. They do, however have an opportunity to have a short lesson with orchestra on Saturday evening. Lessons are given with the aid of pianist Llŷr Williams and a small orchestra made up from the class.

*Participants are kindly requested to bring their instruments so that we may form an ensemble.

Repertoire for the 2009 Course:

Symphony no 2 in D	Brahms
Suite no 2 from "Romeo & Juliet"	Prokofiev
St Paul's Suite for Strings	Holst

Cost of the course, including the excellent cuisine and wine, beer or soft drinks with dinner, is £220 for participants and £170 for observers. Accommodation, at a cost of £25-30 per night, will be either in Wormstall House or in local B&Bs within a short distance of the house. Any special dietary requirements will be catered for within the fee.

The location of Wormstall Park House is 60 miles due west of London, approximately 1 hour by car or train (from Paddington to Kintbury where students can be collected by arrangement with David Geider, Organiser. Tel: 01672 541413). By car, take exit 14 from the M4 then drive 3 miles to Wickham.
